Des Plaines man faces cocaine charges

A Des Plaines man was charged with delivery of a controlled substance after prosecutors say he sold 2.7 grams of cocaine to an undercover Streamwood police officer for $160,

A Cook County judge initially set bail at $75,000 for David Avila, 21, who met the officer earlier this month at an Arlington Heights address, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Cotter.

However, because the defendant was on probation for possession of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest, the judge ordered him held without bail, Cotter said.

The delivery charge is a class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years in prison. Avila was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony punishable by one to three years. Probation is an option with both charges.

Avila next appears in court on Aug. 18.
