Music notes: McCartney graces Wrigley Field

Sir Paul returns

Rock legends don't get much bigger than former Beatle Paul McCartney, who's playing two shows at Wrigley Field Sunday and Monday. McCartney will certainly play a generous selection of those classic Beatles songs he co-wrote back in the day, as well as the hits he's enjoyed as a member of Wings and a solo artist.

8 p.m. Sunday, July 31, and Monday, Aug. 1, at Wrigley Field, 1060 W. Addison, Chicago. $49.50 to $250. Go to tickets.com.

The Waite is over

1980s hitmaker John Waite returns to the stage with a show this weekend. Waite scored a number of big hits during the Reagan era, including his solo song “Missing You” and “When I See You Smile,” a single from his stint with Bad English, an arena rock supergroup that included members of Journey and The Babys, Waite's first band.

8:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Viper Alley, 275 Parkway Drive, Lincolnshire. $22. Go to viper-alley.com.

Back to the beginning

The band Ike Reilly Assassination, led by Libertyville native Ike Reilly, will revisit its debut record, “Salesmen and Racists,” during a special show this weekend. Reilly plans to perform the album in its entirety to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

9 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St., Chicago. $20. Go to bottomlounge.com.

Sold out shows

Those who waited to buy tickets to next week's shows featuring rock bands The Smoking Popes and Alkaline Trio, both of which hail from McHenry County suburbs, might be out of luck. The Aug. 1 and 2 shows at Chicago's Metro rock club have sold out.
