Firefighters responding to the 911 call about 4:30 p.m. saw a large plume of black smoke in the distance, and once at the scene they found the garage engulfed in flames, officials said.

Firefighters were told that there may have been someone trapped inside the garage, but that report turned out to be false, according to the Long Grove fire district.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control, but the only other damage was to a nearby fence.

In total, the garage and contents sustained approximately $50,000 in damage and were a complete loss, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
