Daily Herald report

The DuPage County Fair is nearly here.

Animals are scheduled to arrive Tuesday afternoon in Wheaton in preparation for this year's fair, which starts Wednesday and runs through Sunday at the fairgrounds at Manchester and County Farm roads. On Monday, crews were busy getting the fairgrounds ready.

Roughly 200,000 people are expected at the five-day event, which will offer everything from pig races and carnival rides to a demolition derby and a monster truck show.

Organizers have added several new attractions to the 57th annual fair, including an open reptile show. The fair also will host a county craft fair and farmers market for the first time in the lower level of the grandstand.

Fair admission for adults was lowered to $8 this year from the previous fee of $10. Entry is $3 for children ages 3 to 12 and free for kids 2 and younger.
