Prospect Hts. bank robbery suspect in custody

The suspect in a July 19 attempted bank robbery in Prospect Heights has been arrested after he left his wallet in the back of a taxi cab he rode in while fleeing to Chicago, police said.

Police said the man, whose name was not made public Monday, handed a manager at the Village Bank & Trust, 1845 E. Rand Road, a note indicating it was a robbery just before the bank closed on the 19th.

The bank had no cash on hand, so the armed robber took off with the manager's debit card and headed to Chicago in a taxi after fleeing the bank on foot.

The debit card would not work in the taxi, but the robber forced the driver to complete the ride, which will most likely bring a second armed robbery charge, according to police.

Police were able to identify the man by items found in the wallet.

Prospect Heights Police said the man will also be charged with a separate bank robbery in Madison, Wis.
