Rock concert in Hanover Park to salute troops

A Korean War veteran himself, Fred Hossfeld of VFW Post 5151 in Streamwood knows how critical to morale it is to support those who serve in the military.

That's why his organization, with help from the Hanover Park Park District, is putting together a “Tribute to Armed Forces Rock 'n' Roll Concert” next month.

“It's a small way of showing our appreciation,” the former disc jockey said. “Plus, it will be a really good time for everyone.”

The show is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Hanover Park Community Center, 1919 Walnut Ave. The action will take place inside the facility to shield attendees from the heat.

Hossfeld said the event's emcee will be Joe Cantafio, a singer and guitarist who's performed with the likes of Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Del Shannon. His band, the 101st Rock Division, will perform along with the Madhatter Band and the Theodous Project.

He's also planning on busing in veterans from the Hines V.A. Hospital to enjoy the show.

Tickets are available for $6 at the door. Hossfeld also will be selling $5 tickets in advance between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, July 30 at the Jewel-Osco, 217 Irving Park Road, Streamwood.
