Bartlett home damaged by fire early Saturday

A Bartlett family has been displaced from their home after an early morning Saturday fire.

The Bartlett Fire Protection District says the fire, on the 800 block of Sheridan, started at the back of the house, near the base of the deck stairs, traveled up the siding and into the attic space.

The resident first tried putting it out with a garden hose but had to call 911 at about 2:30 a.m.

Firefighters found the back of the house in flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof. Crews on the scene pulled a line to the rear exterior of the house, and a line to the interior of the house to extinguish the attic fire.

The fire, classed as accidental, damaged the rear of house, roof and attic. The second floor had water and smoke damage. Altogether, the fire caused about $100,000 damage, the news release said.

The residents are not able to stay in the house, and are going to stay with friends and possibly a hotel room, the fire district said in a news release.

Hanover Park, Carol Stream and Streamwood fire departments provided assistance.

One Hanover Park firefighter was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he was treated and released.

Bartlett Fire Department Batallion Chief Mike Clarke says in a fire, the best plan of action is to get everybody out of the home first and then call 911, because a full blaze will double in size every minute.
