New candidate for Lake state's attorney

Lake Barrington attorney Bryan Winter announced Tuesday he intends to run for the Republican nomination for Lake County state's attorney in next year's election.

An attorney in Lake County for 26 years, Winter is a partner in the firm Waukegan firm of Fuqua, Winter and Stiles, Ltd. and has prosecuted municipal ordinance violations and DUI cases.

The current village attorney for Kildeer and Gurnee, Winter said he aims to blend private practice experience with public office.

“My 26 years of legal experience in private practice is an asset and I look forward to applying private sector efficiencies in case management and professional services,” Winter said. “I also plan to expand programs to prosecute elder abuse, protect children from cyber crime and prevent consumer fraud.”

Libertyville attorney Christopher Kennedy announced last week that he will seek the Democratic nomination for state's attorney.

Michael Waller, a Republican who has served as state's attorney since 1990, has not yet publicly announced his plans for the 2012 election.

Winter has held leadership positions in both the state and county bar associations and organized the People's Law School program to introduce people to the legal process.

Winter received his law degree from Marquette University and is married to Lake County Circuit Judge Diane Winter.
