Man whose car struck passing train charged

WHEATON — A suburban Chicago man has been charged with one felony count of aggravated drunk driving after the passenger in his car was killed when the vehicle struck the side of a passing train.

In a news release, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office says 39-year-old Jeffrey Fisher's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when the accident happened early July 3. The release says Fisher allegedly drove through the downed railroad gate and struck the engine of the train.

Fisher of Carol Stream suffered minor injuries. His passenger, 30-year-old Eva Meyers, also of Carol Stream, was airlifted to an area hospital, where she died the next day.

At a hearing on Monday, a judge set Fisher's bond at $500,000.
