Gurnee police looking for male who touched teen girls

Two teenage girls told police a man in his late teens inappropriately touched them in a large wave pool at Six Flags Great America theme park Sunday, authorities said.

Gurnee Police Cmdr. Jay Patrick said the man was watching the girls while they were swimming at Hurricane Harbor about 6:30 p.m.

The 17-year-old Oregon girl and 15-year-old Ohio girl went into the shallow end of the wave pool, and the male teen followed them in, walked behind them, and touched the legs of the older girl, Patrick said.

The girls tried to get away by swimming into the deep end of the wave pool, Patrick said, but the male followed, and touched the legs and stomach of the 17-year-old before touching the 15-year-old in an “inappropriate way.”

Patrick said the girls left the pool and hid in a female washroom and waited for the male to leave. However, when they left the washroom, he followed them again, until they left the water park area, Patrick said.

The girls, who were part of an out-of-state bus group, met up with their group supervisor who took them to the security office to file a report. Gurnee police were called, and the parents of the girls were contacted.

Police and security officers were unable to locate a male matching the description given by the girls. No one has been charged, Patrick said.
