Indifference key to losing liberty

Three steps to losing liberty: 1. Indifference to gerrymandering. In your editorial of June 26, you rightfully declared that our liberty is at stake if politicians can redraw the boundaries for congressional districts to maximize their own chances for re-election. I’d like to point out that this is only one step of the process.

2. Indifference to campaign financing. We have the best government money can buy. This will be addressed at the DuPage Coffeehouse on July 6.

3. Indifference, period. In increasing numbers citizens are uninformed and disengaged on issues vital to democracy. Unless this is reversed our liberty will be history.

That is why the nonpartisan, nonaffiliated DuPage Coffeehouse meets every first Wednesday. Participation is free but seats must be reserved in advance at: www.dupagecoffeehouse.org.
