Mt. Prospect appoints mayor pro tem

The Mount Prospect Village Board has appointed Trustee John Matuszak as the next mayor pro tem. His term begins July 1 and ends June 30, 2012. According to the village code, the mayor pro tem is authorized to perform the duties and functions of the mayor if she has notified the village manager’s office of an absence, if immediate action is necessary in her absence and she cannot be reached or if she is temporarily disabled. While not required by the village code, the selection is based on seniority; the trustee who has been on the board the longest and hasn’t yet held the position becomes the mayor pro tem, officials said. Trustee Steven Polit, who served as mayor pro tem from 2010 to 2011, said at this week’s board meeting that he learned a lot from the experience and he wishes Matuszak the best of luck.
