Nemec returns as Sleepy Hollow trustee

Joe Nemec, a former Sleepy Hollow trustee, has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the village board.

Village President Stephen Pickett Monday night nominated Nemec to the board. The appointment was approved by a vote of 3 to 2, with Trustee Russell Getz absent. Nemec then was quickly sworn in and officially took his place among the other trustees for the remainder of the meeting.

Nemec left the trustee position in 2001 to be with his family. After Nemec’s youngest son graduated from high school, Pickett considered Nemec for the position and asked him whether he was interested.

Pickett said the nomination originally was intended for the previous board meeting but was delayed after Getz was unable to attend. Trustees Donald Ziemba and Jeff Seiler voted no Monday, saying they preferred waiting for Getz to weigh in. But he was absent once again.

Nemec’s two-year term will end in April 2013.
