Ruse used in Buffalo Grove jewelry theft

Thieves used a ruse to steal two jewelry boxes out of a home on the 300 block of Burnt Ember Lane in Buffalo Grove around 5:20 p.m. Friday, police said. One of the thieves told the male resident he was from ComEd and there was a problem with the electricity in the area. He said he needed to make sure the problem was not coming from the victim’s house. He spent 10 minutes inside the home, distracting the resident. The man left in a white van with two other subjects. The victim discovered the jewelry boxes missing after they had driven away.
