Drains in all the Elk Grove Park District pools are safe, and the pools are open, Mike Brottman, executive director, said Wednesday. The pools all opened on Monday, Memorial Day, after the staff determined their previous announcement that the pools would be closed so drain covers could be replaced was based on incomplete information. It turns out that when drains are large enough the water flow is not dangerous, said Brottman. That data was left out of a notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, he said. Meanwhile, the Arlington Heights Park District will keep all five wading pools closed until replacement drain covers can be obtained. Other pools in Arlington Heights are open.
