Mt. Prospect leaders to blame, not state

Mount Prospect Mayor Irvana Wilks’ comments in response to cuts in state funding of local communities are simply laughable! After allowing the village to spend like drunken sailors during her tenure and signing contract after contract with various development companies, offering them tax relief for decades into the future, Irvana has the nerve to complain about how the state is not keeping its word to local communities?

Since when should the state fund every essential (and nonessential) service for each community while the local governments seek to aggrandize themselves through the building of unnecessary facilities around town? And let’s not even bring up what this wild spending and shrinkage in the tax base is doing to our local schools!

It’s time for Irvana to stop moderating village board meetings like an aide and to roll up her sleeves instead and come up with some bold and dramatic solutions to village problems that do not include transferring the tax burden to already suffering taxpayers in the village or to the soon-to-be-bankrupt state!

It’s a lot easier to sit and look pretty on the Village 4th of July float than to actually make some difficult and unpopular decisions that could save our town.
