Car almost ends up in Bartlett pond

A driver who lost control of his car stopped just short of ending up in a Bartlett-area subdivision’s pond on Friday, authorities said.

The car was going east about 5:40 p.m. on Smith Road near Waterford Lane when the vehicle jumped the curb, headed through grass and a driveway, and came to a halt on the bank of the pond, said Lt. Richard Wilson of the Bartlett Fire Protection District.

One tire of the car ended up in the water, he said.

The male teen driver had some minor bumps and bruises and was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield for evaluation, he said.

Some of the vehicle’s fluids leaked into the waterway, and crews worked to patch a hole in the fuel tank to prevent further contamination. The subdivision’s homeowners association also contacted a cleanup company, officials said.
