Police continue search for 6-year-old Aurora boy

Police are continuing their search for a 6-year-old Aurora boy whose mother was found dead in a Rockford motel room Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said Amy Fry-Pitzen committed suicide in a Rockford motel room sometime after checking in late Friday night, but she was not with her son, Timothy Pitzen, when checking in.

She also was seen at a grocery store about 8 p.m. Friday in Winnebago County without Timothy.

Fry-Pitzen checked her son out of school Wednesday morning and no one had heard from either her or the boy until Friday afternoon, when she contacted several family members and friends telling them that she and Timothy were not in danger, according to police.

Fry-Pitzen left a note that indicated Timothy was fine and that she had left him with “unnamed people,” police said.

Cellphone records indicate that the calls and texts were sent between noon and 1:30 p.m. Friday from the Sterling/Rock Falls area, about 60 miles southwest of Rockford.

Officials said at least one relative that Fry-Pitzen spoke with Friday night also spoke to Timothy, who the relative said did not seem to be in any distress.

Timothy was last seen Friday morning at a Wisconsin Dells resort with his 43-year-old mother when the two were checking in, police said.

Amy’s husband reported his wife and son missing from their home on the 400 block of North Highland Avenue on Thursday.

Police said the two stayed at the Key Lime Cove Resort in Gurnee on Wednesday night after visiting the Brookfield Zoo earlier in the day.

Timothy is 4 feet 2 inches tall and weights approximately 70 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police are asking anyone who believes they saw either the boy, his mother or anyone who may have been with them or anyone with information on the case to call Aurora Police at (630) 256-5500.
