Body found in Carol Stream pond

Carol Stream police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a pond near the Town Center Thursday morning, officials said.

Police refused comment, but confirmed a body was found in a Carol Stream pond and a death investigation was under way Thursday night.

Mayor Frank Saverino said he received a phone call from Deputy Police Chief Jerry O’Brien at around 9:30 a.m. after the body was found in the mud-bottom pond at Forest Park.

A Carol Stream Fire Protection District official said firefighters assisted the police in pulling the body from the water Thursday morning, but it was clear the body was lifeless.

A fire official estimated the body had been in the water for “a couple days.”

Saverino said the body was found on the east side of the pond near the Carol Stream Town Center, away from houses that are on the opposite side of the pond.

The DuPage County coroner’s office recovered the body and is investigating the cause of death, Saverino said.

The mayor said the pond is not used for swimming, but is a popular spot for joggers.

The DuPage County coroner’s office could not be reached for comment.
