Aurora man charged in West Chicago shooting

An Aurora gang member has been charged with an April 6 shooting in West Chicago that left one man injured, authorities said Wednesday.

Nicholas Toscano, 22, was indicted Tuesday in DuPage County. The 12-count complaint charges him with aggravated battery, reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, among other offenses.

Authorities said Toscano opened fire with a “small caliber” handgun about 9 p.m. April 6 on the 1200 block of Kings Circle, striking one man and missing another.

Court records list Toscano as a member of a street gang. On Wednesday, he was in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections, which paroled him in December after he served about nine months on a prior case.

Records show Toscano has convictions for drug possession and resisting police in Kane County, and for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in DuPage.

In the latter case, he was found guilty of stabbing a man in the face with a box cutter in West Chicago in April 2009, according to court records.

West Chicago police did not immediately respond to a request for additional details. Toscano’s bail has been set at $300,000.
