Yusuf, Wolin, Manzo sweep Oak Brook trustee race

Three candidates endorsed by the Oak Brook Community Caucus have swept the village board race.

With all precincts reporting, the winners are former trustee Asif Yusuf with 1,809 votes, incumbent Gerald Wolin with 1,651 votes and newcomer Michael Manzo with 1,531 votes, according to unofficial results.

Funeral director Anthony DiCanio garnered 1,172 votes and physician Kee D. Shin trailed with 573 votes.

“This is an obvious mandate that we need to change direction,” Manzo said.

“It was truly a team effort,” he added. “People from all different parts of the community, different ethnicities, different religions, all coming together to support change in Oak Brook.”

All three said they want to restore good relations with village employees and integrity to village government.

Much of the campaign focused on how to restore Oak Brook’s reputation, which has suffered a black eye from a series of recent controversies.

The Oak Brook Community Caucus, made up of homeowners association representatives from throughout the village, also endorsed Gopal Lalmalani, who defeated incumbent John Craig in the race for village president.
