"I want to bring the library up to new technology. It's basically behind," Hulke, 60, said. Hulke hopes to focus on linking the needs of the library patron with resources and services the library provides.

Carl, 73, said she will keep with her conservative financial outlook. "I'm very aware of money being spent and have my option on what not to spend it on."

Carl, a former bookkeeper, said she always keeps an eye out for expenditures she feels are not justified.

The library has two branches, the main branch in Streamwood and the Sonya Crawshaw branch in Hanover Park.

The district serves 66,000 residents from Elgin, Hanover Park and Streamwood, as well as portions of Bartlett and Schaumburg.
