Feds, DuPage should get stories straight

I just read your article about how the assessed evaluation of DuPage County homes went down last year. It also claims that DuPage County Clerk Gary King, states because the evaluation is down, it doesn’t mean that your taxes won’t go up and explains the reasons why this may happen.

Mr. King is quoted as saying that because of tax caps, tax increases are limited to 5 percent or the rate of inflation. which ever is lower. Mr. King also states that inflation was 2.7 percent last year, which is why taxing bodies are requesting more money this year. This is where I become confused.

According to our federal government, there was no inflation last year, which is the reason millions of retires and persons on disability didn’t get a raise, but yet our property taxes will continue to rise, because in part of a 2.7 percent inflation rate. It continues to amaze me the creative accounting that’s done when it comes to taking money out of our pockets as to the creative accounting that’s done when it comes to putting money into our pockets.

Someone not being truthful with us. Maybe the federal government should meet with the DuPage County Clerk to discuss their numbers and make sure they are both on the same page.
