Island Lake man charged with threatening teen

A 24-year-old Island Lake man has been arrested after threatening to kill a juvenile for telling police he obtained drugs and alcohol at the man’s home, police said.

Joseph W. Crisara III, of the 300 block of Tulip Circle, was charged with battery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, telephone harassment and intimidation, Island Lake Police Chief Bill McCorkle said.

McCorkle said officers found an intoxicated juvenile staggering on Roberts Road in the early morning hours of March 27. The juvenile, who was issued a ticket for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, told officers where they could find Crisara, who he said had supplied him with alcohol and other drugs

Officers went to Crisara’s home and issued him a ticket for “social hosting.” The fine for social hosting citation ranges from community to community, McCorkle said, but in Island Lake it is up to $1,000.

Two days later, officers found the same juvenile walking on a village street about 1 a.m. and stopped to check his well-being, McCorkle said. Officers learned the juvenile had been threatened with violence by Crisara if he did not pay the social hosting ticket, police said.

Police arrested Crisara at his home without incident.

During the arrest, officers noticed a strong odor of burned cannabis and were granted permission to search the home. With the help of the Crystal Lake police K9 unit, the search resulted in the seizure of 10.5 grams of cannabis, 14 grams of heroin, 6 grams of ecstasy, and 4 grams Suboxone, along with other drug paraphernalia, stolen identifications, weapons, and cash.

Additional charges are expected against Crisara and other people living in the home, police said.
