Bell-LaSota, Malay for St. Charles council

Normally a community outside of an area that is conducting an election doesn’t get involved in that election. But in the case of the City of St. Charles elections for aldermanic positions, we, the members of River Bend Community Group in unincorporated St. Charles Township, feel the need to express our opinion.

The City of St. Charles is encouraging and preparing to build a bridge to cross the Fox River from Route 25 to Route 31 at Red Gate Road that will be on the far northern edge of St. Charles. It is the opinion of a majority of our members that it will be of little use to St. Charles and will be a detriment to our neighborhood, the Fox River, students at St. Charles North High School, the downtown merchants and the pocketbooks of the residents of St. Charles. Even though the bridge will be in our area, we won’t pay a cent for it, so money is not the reason for our concern or involvement in this discussion.

While we have tremendous respect for St. Charles Mayor DeWitte, we feel that this project is wrongheaded and has taken on a life of its own proven by the ignoring of facts about the cost, lack of necessity, traffic flows and the detrimental effect on downtown merchants.

There are two people running for alderman that are opposed to this. They both show independent thought concerning the Red Gate issue instead of the “rubber stamp” appearance of the current city council.

For these reasons, the River Bend Community Group is endorsing Vanessa Bell-LaSota for 3rd Ward Alderman and Kim Malay for 5th Ward Alderman.
