Palatine man charged in BB gun shooting

A Palatine man charged with shooting an elementary school student twice with a BB rifle was given a $40,000 bond Saturday.

Palatine police on Friday arrested Ryan Hinson, a 19-year-old Harper College student, after students at the Lincoln Elementary School on Ridgewood Lane identified his house, across the street on Farmgate Lane, as the source for BB pellets that struck a 12-year-old sixth-grader as he played football with his classmates.

The incident caused a lockdown at Lincoln school shortly after the shooting at 1:40 p.m. Police reports read in court Saturday said that Hinson admitted to shooting the air rifle and turned the gun over to police, who charged him with aggravated battery.

The court ruled Saturday that Hinson could not have firearms in his house and he can only leave his home for purposes of going to a job, church, medical center and school until his next court appearance April 8.
