Eimer named West Aurora football coach

Nathan “Nate” Eimer, a 2001 West Aurora graduate who played football for the Blackhawks and also was a member of West Aurora's Class AA state championship basketball team, will be West Aurora's new head football coach.

Currently a coach and special education teacher at Oswego East High School, Eimer's appointment as Blackhawks' head football coach and special education teacher will be recommended at the March 21 District 129 School Board meeting, according to a West Aurora High news release.

“The Board is aware of my proposal recommendation and supports his selection,” Superintendent Jim Rydland stated in the release.

In both high school and college, Eimer excelled on and off the field of play.

A National Honor Society student at West Aurora, he twice earned Academic All-State honors. A four-year letterman on the football team at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Eimer was a two-time Academic All-American who in 2005 was named Edinboro's most dedicated player.

Eimer served as offensive coordinator at Oswego East last season. Despite a record of 3-6, the Wolves' offense produced records in every statistical category for the five-year program, according to the release.

Eimer was Oswego East's sophomore offensive coordinator for an 8-1 team that won the championship of the Southwest Prairie Conference.

He also recently concluded a three-year term as Oswego East's head varsity basketball coach, leading the Wolves to a 59-22 record.

“Nate has had success as a high-school player, college player and high school coach,” West Aurora High Principal Dan Bridges stated in the news release.

“And, because of his Aurora roots, I believe he is someone our current players can look up to as a role model. He has worked hard for the success he has had and understands the values of discipline, dedication and determination.”

Eimer will succeed Roger “Buck” Drach, recently named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Class of 2011. Drach officially announced his retirement on Dec. 2, 2010, after mounting a record of 16-29 in five seasons at West Aurora, and 173-103 overall.
