Des Plaines woman dies after crash

A 73-year-old Des Plaines woman died Saturday of a hemorrhage a day after she was involved in a minor two-car crash in Niles, authorities said Monday.

Jozefa Miskiewicz-Majka of Des Plaines died at 3:17 p.m. Saturday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The crash occurred at about 7:12 p.m. Friday in the 8600 block of westbound Golf Road at Milwaukee Avenue.

Miskiewicz-Majka was driving a 2004 Honda Accord when her vehicle swerved and struck the rear passenger side of a 1997 Toyota Camry stopped at the traffic light at Golf and Milwaukee in the left lane.

“She was straddling in between two lanes and veered right into him,” Niles Police Sgt. Robert Tornabene said.

When emergency crews responded to the scene, Miskiewicz-Majka was disorientated and confused and was transported to the hospital, Tornabene said.

The 29-year-old driver of the Camry was not taken to the hospital, he added.
