For Carol Stream village board: Schwarze, Weiss, Joseph

Four candidates seek three available seats on the Carol Stream village board, and it’s hard to imagine a more desirable mix of strengths.

Incumbent Donald A. Weiss, seeking his second term, has direct experience dealing with village business dating to before his service on the plan commission a decade ago. Incumbent

Greg Schwarze, also seeking his second term, has been heavily involved in civic affairs and is a local firefighter and paramedic.

Newcomer Mary Frusolone volunteers with the park district, police and emergency response agencies, among many local activities.

And challenger James Joseph has leadership experience in big business as well as with the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

All are committed to avoiding initiation of a property tax and have good ideas about how to manage economically during tough times. All want to create a more friendly climate for business. All would serve the village well as trustees. Our preferences go to the incumbents for their direct experience and continuing commitment to the job and to Joseph, particularly for the value his experience in emergency management could have for a town where serious flooding is an ongoing concern.

We endorse Schwarze, Weiss and Joseph.
