One party system would unite U.S.

text size: AAA

The United States should move to a one-party system in order to eradicate the stagnation and immobilization caused by the oppositional politics carried on by the two parties.

We would still have the Senate and the House of Representatives, but the members would belong to the American Party. The Republicans and Democrats should merge into the American party with the bald eagle as the mascot.

America is not a working democracy. It is a broken democracy. There are so many conflicting voices that we can’t concentrate and make progress on our internal development.

The Republican Party is thought of as the party of the rich and powerful. The Democratic Party is thought of as the party of the less affluent in our society. However, the less affluent citizens have developed methods of matching and countering the power and resources of the rich through collective action. The battle for resources between the two parties leads to a standstill, and greed is the only winner.

America lost the first decade of the century for internal development because of the resources being spent on two wars that were not necessary and would not have been started by a rational political system.

It is time to make the needed changes in our democratic system which will be conducive to cooperation and action for the goal of the whole citizenry of our country instead of the advantage of the few.
