For Lisle board: Young, Boyle, Wilkie

Five candidates square off for three four-year terms on the Lisle village board. They are Ed Young, a trustee since 1999; Mark Boyle, elected four years ago; Catherine Cawiezel, appointed to the board in 2009; Gary Ledvora, an unsuccessful candidate for mayor two years ago, and Richard Wilkie, one of the residents fighting Navistar’s plan to relocate its corporate headquarters in Lisle.

We support the re-election of Young and Boyle, two knowledgeable and hardworking trustees. Both are sensitive to resident concerns, with Young winning his first election after leading the fight to stop a Meijer store from being built near a residential area.

No knock on Cawiezel, but we’re impressed by Wilkie’s grasp on issues outside of Navistar, such as finance and downtown redevelopment, his intelligence and enthusiasm. He also says, despite his insistent hammering of Navistar and local officials, that the move of the engine-making giant to Lisle is a good thing. Wilkie can come across as a bit strident. We strongly encourage him to use his insight and questioning nature to be a positive force on the village board.
