Unhappy with Kane blizzard effort

I was one of the passengers who was stranded for 16 hours in my car due to drifting snow in Hampshire on Route 72 west of Walker Road. I was stranded from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 11 a.m. Wednesday. I was finally rescued by independent snowmobilers and taken to Hampshire.

I was then asked to fill out information from Kane County Sheriff’s Police about my vehicle so that when one lane of Route 72 was open I could come and dig out my car without it being towed. I was never called and then discovered that my vehicle was towed by an out-of-district towing company instead of the local firm. I was charged $300, which is double the cost of the local company.

There was no assistance by Kane County regarding the overpriced towing. Kane County had called in the other company to tow 11 vehicles and the local company was only allowed to take three of the vehicles that were in the same vicinity. I and many others am extremely upset that we were not informed by Kane County on what the situation was with our vehicles. In fact, they offered no assistance in even trying to rescue us from the blizzard. My wife, friends and family were the only ones that made calls to finally get us rescued by reaching out to friends in the area who had snowmobiles to rescue us.

I’m a previous heart attack victim and diabetic, and being out in this blizzard could have killed me.
