Love thy neighbor? Help with driveway
Memo to people who own a snowblower: I have read all the heartwarming stories over the past couple of days in regard to people who take the time to assist their neighbors with snow removal, be it shovels or snowblowers.
As I was finally able to make it into my office after being housebound by the Blizzard of 2011. I was surprised to hear stories that were not so heartwarming from some of my co-workers. Elderly and single parents struggling with removing huge amounts of snow on their own, without an offer of assistance from their neighbors.
I have a similar story of my own. I live in Roselle and in the general vicinity of my home, let’s say 12 homes, there were six snowblowers whirling away. My husband and I do not own a snowblower and we took our time shoveling our driveway while taking numerous breaks. It took us three hours to finally get the drive cleared and I noticed not one of my neighbors who owned a snowblower offered to help my husband and I or anyone else of whom were struggling with their shovels.
It made me a little sad to think about the people who wear blinders through life and the rewards they are missing from the gratitude offered when a hand is lent to someone in need. Love thy neighbor, love thy self.
