Cops: Hoffman Estates fatal crash not a hit and run

Police say their probe of Thursday night's fiery car crash which killed two in Hoffman Estates is not a hit-and-run investigation.

All parties involved have been identified, Hoffman Estates police Lt. J.C. Páez said, and a third driver questioned after the crash has not been charged.

Migdalia “Mickie” Bloch, 62, of Hoffman Estates, and Joseph Paliokaitis, 32, of North Aurora, died in the wreck, which occurred about 7:37 p.m. on Golf Road, just west of Bartlett Road.

The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled on Friday that both died from multiple injuries suffered in the collision.

Witnesses said they saw a 2002 blue Subaru four-door heading west on Golf Road away from the crash scene. Police found the driver of that car about three hours after the crash, Illinois State Police said.

The Subaru's driver was questioned, but police stressed Friday that the fatal wreck involved just two vehicles and, contrary to initial reports Thursday night, was not being investigated as a hit-and-run.

Paliokaitis, who was ejected from the Jaguar he was driving, was taken from the scene to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates were doctors pronounced him dead at 8:11 p.m.

Bloch was trapped in her Hyundai, which burst into flames after the collision. She died at the scene, police said.

Bloch, formerly of Geneva, spent 2004 to 2009 as a district dales manager for Cost Segregations Services Inc., according to her LinkedIn profile.

Paliokaitis' aunt declined to comment Friday.

The intersection of Bartlett and Golf roads is one of five Hoffman Estates intersections slated for red-light cameras later this year. However, the crash happened away from the intersection, Páez said. Over the last three years police reported 105 crashes at Bartlett and Golf roads.
