Flyers home opener May 30

The Schaumburg Flyers will open their 2011 season on May 25 against the Rockford Redhawks in the new North American independent baseball league.

The home opener, also against the Redhawks, is set for May 30 at Alexian Field in Schaumburg.

With the Northern League folding after last season, the Flyers have joined 11 other teams in the North American League. The Flyers will play in the East Division with the Lake County Fielders from Zion, as well as teams from Edinburg, Rio Grande Valley, Rockford and San Angelo.

There are eight fireworks nights on the 2011 schedule, which concludes with regular-season play on Sept. 5
