County clerk to do signature check on 6th Ward candidates

The Cook County Clerk's Office will verify signatures of registered voters on the petitions of Des Plaines 6th Ward hopefuls Mario Palacios and Richard Hissong after objections were filed to their candidacies.

The binder check will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the clerk's office, 69 W. Washington St., Chicago, 5th floor.

The Des Plaines Electoral Board earlier this week removed another candidate for the city's 6th Ward alderman seat from the April 5 ballot over discrepancies in his nominating papers. The board — Mayor Marty Moylan, City Clerk Gloria Ludwig and 8th Ward Alderwoman Rosemary Argus — took candidate Cliff Matthews out of the election over claims of numerous errors in his documents, including unnumbered pages, improper binding and questionable signatures.

Following the county clerk's verification of signatures, the Des Plaines electoral board will make its determination whether Palacios and Hissong can remain on the ballot. A fourth candidate for the 6th Ward seat, incumbent Alderman Mark Walsten, has no objectors.
