Hawks expect Kane to play vs. St. Louis

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Monday it was likely Patrick Kane would return to the lineup Tuesday at St. Louis after missing eight games with a high left ankle sprain.

Kane made it through Monday's practice skating on a line with Jonathan Toews and Troy Brouwer.

Kane knows he will be feeling some pain for the foreseeable future.

“You just have to learn to deal with it,” Kane said. “I'm going to try to do the best I can to make it as healthy as possible and just keep getting in good shape where the pain doesn't last as long as it should.”

The Hawks have gone 5-2-1 without Kane.

“The past few games have been really good,” Kane said. “I know before that there wasn't a real good mood in the locker room, but it's nice to come around the rink now and see everyone smiling and everyone doing well.

“You look at some of our players who have just come in this year, guys like (Bryan) Bickell and (Jack) Skille, and they're playing good hockey.”

Missed again:

Jack Skille was unaware that the Hawks haven't scored on a penalty shot at home since 1987, when Troy Murray did it at Chicago Stadium.

Skille's miss on a penalty shot in the second period against Columbus on Sunday was the 18th straight unsuccessful try by a Hawks player since Murray beat goalie Kari Takko of the Minnesota North Stars on Dec. 30, 1987.

“I would like to have that one back,” Skille said. “I know I'll probably be dreaming about that one later.”

Skille was disappointed he couldn't seize the moment with the crowd on its feet.

“That was one of the cooler experiences I've had,” Skille said. “It was loud and it was great. I just wanted to put the puck in the back of the net and hear the roar and hear the horn.”

Morin injured:

Jeremy Morin suffered what is believed to be a shoulder injury playing for Team USA in the World Junior Championships on Sunday.

There were immediate reports that the injury could be serious, but USA officials listed Morin as day-to-day on Monday with an upper body injury, and said the winger might return before the tournament is over.

Tip-ins:

Corey Crawford practiced Monday but still isn't feeling 100 percent from his bout with the flu. He'll sit behind Marty Turco at St. Louis...

Viktor Stalberg and John Scott skated without a line at practice on Monday, making them likely healthy scratches against St. Louis if Patrick Kane returns... The fourth line in practice was Jake Dowell, Ryan Johnson and Jack Skille... Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp skated at wing with center Tomas Kopecky... The line of Dave Bolland, Fernando Pisani and Bryan Bickell stayed intact.
