Aurora man killed at store distribution center

An Aurora man was killed Friday morning when he was run over at the Aldi distribution center in Batavia.

Raymond Vanpelt, 53, was pronounced dead at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

Batavia police say a preliminary investigation suggests the driver of a semi-tractor was backing up to a trailer to move it elsewhere in a parking lot. He apparently did not see Vanpelt behind him, who was on foot. It happened at 10:24 a.m. The driver is a 46-year-old man from Sandwich, Ill.

The investigation is ongoing. No tickets have been issued.

The distribution center is at 1200 N. Kirk Road, on the campus of the headquarters for its United States division.

Batavia police have not determined if either man worked for Aldi.
