Another candidate vying for Des Plaines 6th Ward seat

A second challenger has come forward in the race to represent Des Plaines' 6th Ward.

The field now has newcomers Mario Palacios and Richard Hissong running against incumbent 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten, who is seeking his second term in office in the April 5 consolidated election.

Challengers also are vying to unseat incumbents in Des Plaines' 2nd and 4th wards. Steve Antonoff is seeking the 2nd Ward seat currently held by Alderman John Robinson.

In the 4th Ward, Mark Pytlewicz joins a field of candidates that now includes onetime alderman Dick Sayad, who unsuccessfully ran for mayor 2009, and one-term incumbent Alderwoman Jean Higgason.

Michael “Mike” Charewicz, Austin V. Stanton, Jr. and Pat Mauro are running for the 8th Ward seat left open by the departure of Alderwoman Rosemary Argus. Argus cannot seek re-election because of city term-limit regulations.

The candidate filing period ends at 5 p.m. Dec. 20.

The City Clerk's Office will conduct a public lottery starting 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27 in Room 602 of City Hall, to determine the ballot position of candidates who filed simultaneously on Dec. 13, the first day of the filing period.
