Glen Ellyn public works chief heads to Bensenville

Bensenville's national search landed them a new director of public works from just 12 miles down the street.

Joe Caracci, director of public works in Glen Ellyn resigned his position Wednesday to take on the same role next month in Bensenville.

Bensenville offficals said they viewed Caracci as a valuable member of the village's executive management team based on his vast experience in all aspects of public works management, including engineering and construction, capital improvement planning, utility operations and wastewater treatment, street maintenance and forestry.

“Our strategic objective to rebuild decaying streets and resolve chronic flooding in our residential and industrial neighborhoods will demand greater engineering and construction capacity within out organization,” Village Manager Michael Cassady said in a written release. “This massive community investment program is critical to the future viability of our business centers, and we will benefit operationally and financially from (Caracci's) contributions.”

Caracci's last day in Glen Ellyn will be Jan. 2. His first day in Bensenville has not been determined.
