Wolves' offense sizzles win win over Lake Erie

The Chicago Wolves continued to click on offense as they matched a season high in goals for their third straight victory, a 6-3 decision over the Lake Erie Monsters on Tuesday night at the Allstate Arena.

Left wing Nigel Dawes (2 goals, assist) and right wing Spencer Machacek (2 goals, assist) paced the offense, while forwards Jared Ross and Jamie Hunt each chipped in 2 assists for the Wolves.

Forwards Jason Krog and Michael Davies also picked up goals for the Wolves, who have scored 5 or more in three straight games after being held to 2 or fewer in the previous seven games.

“Once our offensive guys score some goals, the confidence comes,” Wolves coach Don Lever said. “Our goaltending has been solid, and that's been a big help.”

Lake Erie got on the board first with a power-play goal 4:37 into the contest, when right wing Matthew Ford fired a shot past Wolves goaltender Peter Mannino from the top of the circle.

The Wolves drew even at 1-1 at 7:28 of the first period. Ross collected the puck and drove toward the net, where he dished a pass to Machacek at the top of the crease for a quick tap past Monsters goalie Trevor Cann.

Krog made it 2-1 to put the Wolves on top for good at 9:51 of the first period.

Right wing Darren Haydar controlled the puck along the right boards and slipped a pass to center Andre Deveaux behind the goal line. Deveaux dished a pass to Krog from behind the net, and the center popped it past Cann into the left corner.

Mannino made 15 saves on 18 shots for his third straight win. The Wolves visit the Peoria Rivermen on Friday at 7 p.m.
