Wolves suffer 7th loss in a row
HOUSTON - The Chicago Wolves fell behind by 3 goals during the first 20 minutes and couldn't climb back despite a late rally, suffering their seventh straight loss, 3-2 to the Houston Aeros at the Toyota Center Wednesday night.
Chicago (6-11-1-0) rallied in the third period with goals from right wings Akim Aliu and Darren Haydar.
Aliu made it 3-1 with a short-handed goal 6:27 into the third period, when he broke down the ice with defenseman Noah Welch, sent a pass across to the blue liner and redirected his shot past Houston goaltender Matt Hackett.
The Wolves pulled within 3-2 with less than two minutes left when Haydar dug the puck out of traffic in the crease and popped it in.
Goalie Peter Mannino (1-3-0) stopped 21 shots in the loss. The Wolves return to Chicago to face the Aeros on Saturday night at the Allstate Arena.
