Schaumburg tree lighting Nov. 26

The Schaumburg Fire Department will officially escort Santa Claus to town on the evening of Friday, Nov. 26, to join village officials in the annual tree lighting ceremony to welcome the holiday season.

Mayor Al Larson and trustees will begin the evening singing holiday carols at 6 p.m. at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court. Santa is expected to arrive at 6:30 p.m. in the plaza between the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center and the Prairie Center.

Village officials will assist Santa in his lighting duties. In keeping with holiday tradition, the tree has been decorated with ornaments crafted by area youth groups and organizations.

After the lighting ceremony, Santa will meet with youngsters in the Maggie Atcher Theatre inside the Prairie Center. Parents are welcome to bring their cameras and get a special snapshot of their children with Santa until approximately 8:30 p.m.

Seasonal entertainment will be provided and refreshments served. The event is co-sponsored by the Schaumburg Jaycees.

Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to this event for the Schaumburg Food Pantry. These items may be placed in the designated boxes in the Prairie Center lobby. Additional items will be accepted at the Atcher Municipal Center during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, until Jan. 7.
