Glen Ellyn woman in critical condition

A 51-year-old Glen Ellyn woman was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a semitrailer truck Tuesday night, Glendale Heights authorities said.

Danuta Dean was walking across North Avenue in Glendale Heights when she was struck by a westbound 2007 Freightliner at 9:39 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The truck's driver, a 40-year-old Loves Park man, was cooperating in the investigation and has not been cited, Police Cmdr. Dennis Schar said.

The area where the woman attempted to cross the street was not illuminated by street lights and was 100 yards from the nearest intersection, authorities said.

Dean was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where she remained Wednesday.

Westbound lanes on North Avenue were closed for roughly three hours Tuesday night and were reopened about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Schar said he did not think Dean was wearing reflective clothing.
