Schaumburg car fire delays traffic on Route 53

Schaumburg firefighters responded to a car fire on Route 53 northbound near I-90 at around 5:30 p.m. tonight.

The incident caused heavy delays and backed up traffic but the highway department had cars moving more smoothly as of 6:30 p.m.

Only one car was involved in the accident according to a Schaumburg fire department spokesman.

Fire officials did not know if anyone was injured or the cause of the accident.
