2010 Town Meeting results and report

Woodridge's annual Town Meeting was held Sept. 30 at Bobak's Signature Room at Seven Bridges. More than 120 people attended the event. The evening began with Mayor Murphy providing an update on the village's efforts in addressing the community's priorities which includes business retention activities, financial stewardship, public safety, government accountability, and infrastructure maintenance. These topics were derived from an online survey conducted by the village a few weeks prior to the meeting.

After the mayor's presentation, the audience broke out into smaller groups to discuss these topics and identify related actions that the village should take. The participants then worked through a facilitated workshop session to reach consensus on the actions that should be taken regarding each priority.

Each table developed a prioritized list of actions related to each of the topics they discussed. In some cases there were many tables that identified similar priorities. In other cases, some tables developed more varied priorities. Many comments made during the meeting were positive, noting that the village has been a good financial steward and open with information. Participants also complimented the village on being responsive to resident input and asked for more opportunities to provide input.

“Year after year I continue to be impressed by the residents that attend Town Meeting,” said Mayor Murphy. “Having individuals come together to improve their community is great thing to be a part of and I applaud the efforts of the people that attended Town Meeting and participated in the online survey.”

The input received during Town Meeting will be considered during the Goal Setting Workshop that will be held by village board tonight, Nov. 4. The Goal Setting Workshop will establish the village's 2011-2012 goals. The Summary Report, which contains prioritized actions and open discussion items from Town Meeting, is available on Town Meeting website, www.vil.woodridge.il.us.
