Charges filed in arrests at Villa Park motel
Villa Park police have filed several misdemeanor charges against three Ohio men apprehended last week at a Motel 6.
Police seized two handguns, two laptop computers and a credit card skimmer used to recode credit cards, authorities said. Police also found numerous credit cards that had been recorded with different credit card numbers, authorities said.
Dawit Gebremariam, 18, was charged with attempted possession of machinery designed to reproduce credit cards, attempted possession of altered credit cards and obstructing a police officer.
Filmon Habte, 19, was charged with attempted possession of altered credit cards and possession of cannabis.
Yontan Araya, 20, was charged with attempted possession of altered credit cards and obstructing a police officer.
A fourth man who was detained during the investigation was released without charges.
Police were called to the motel, 10 W. Roosevelt Road, late Oct. 20 after housekeeping employees noticed two handguns in a room, reports said.
When the four men returned to the room, which was being watched by police, they ran from the officers, reports said. Several police units responded and all four men were caught and detained, authorities said.
The two guns are being sent to the DuPage County Crime Lab to be analyzed for fingerprints.
