Sugar Grove Library trustee quits

Longtime Sugar Grove Library Trustee Carol Olsen has resigned.

Olsen, 55, cited "personal reasons" in the letter she submitted to the board, library Director Beverly Holmes Hughes said Thursday.

Olsen has been on the board since 1995, and is its treasurer. Her term expires in 2013.

The library board was due to discuss the resignation Thursday night, including whether to appoint someone to fill the position until the April 2011 municipal election.

In April 2011, there will be an election to fill the remaining two years of the term.

"It's been a pleasure to serve with Carol all these years," Hughes said.

In a 2007 Daily Herald election questionnaire, Olsen said she wanted "to see a new library built before she left the board."

A new library opened in August 2009.

Olsen and the rest of the board have had to figure out how to provide library services without increasing property taxes, as voters have repeatedly rejected an operating tax increase. It cut hours of service several times, and is open far less than most other area libraries.

Olsen could not be reached for comment.
