Maple Park man indicted in May crash

A Maple Park man has been indicted on felony drunken driving charges in connection with a May crash near Lily Lake.

Jeffrey A. Linneman, 50, of the 16500 block of Route 38, was indicted by a Kane County grand jury Tuesday on four counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors said. The most serious count is a Class 2 felony.

Police said Linneman was eastbound on Indian Creek Trail shortly before 10 p.m. May 17 when his Hyundai Entourage ran a stop sign at a "high rate of speed" and went airborne through an intersection at Route 47. He then went east on Empire Road, striking a parked vehicle, a support beam for a front porch, a church sign, a mailbox and multiple fences and bushes before coming to rest on the south side of the road, according to a police report.

Linneman later registered a blood-alcohol level greater than the legal threshold, and police found bottles of vodka in his sock and on the floorboard of his vehicle, authorities said.

In addition to DUI, Linneman faces misdemeanor counts of driving while license suspended, improper lane use and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

He declined to comment when reached by phone Wednesday afternoon.

Assistant State's Attorney Tom St. Jules said Linneman was previously convicted of DUI in 1997 in DuPage County and in 1999 in Kane County. In the later case, he was sentenced to 100 hours of community service, 18 months of conditional discharge and alcoholism treatment, according to court records.

His next court date is Aug. 17 in front of Judge Thomas E. Mueller.
