Young actors can improve their skills at Batavia workshops

The Jesters Courtyard, a new space within All Dressed Up Costumes, is offering "Camp Improv," a one-week boot camp of improvisational fun.

The workshop will feature a variety of theater games and acting activities introducing students to the performing arts.

Several youth theater activities have been schedule for this summer, including makeup skills workshops, improv classes, acting classes and a performance workshop.

Steve Sledzinski will lead the workshop, which is a performance-oriented class and will feature both comedic and straight improv to improve young actors. Friends and family will be invited to attend a "showoff show" on the last day of class.

The sessions are June 21-25 or July 19-23. Classes will meet daily for each week from 1 to 2:30 p.m., with a final performance Fridays at 2 p.m. This workshop is for students ages 8 to 14. The registration fee is $75.

Two acting classes are being taught by Nora Manca. The first is "How to Audition," in which students will select a monologue and will be coached on how to deliver a monologue at an audition, and be given tips on how to make a good first impression. This workshop will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 29-July 15. Students will present their monologues to friends and family at the end of the session.

A workshop on dialogue and physical movement, "Say it and Show it," will teach how to add interesting traits to create characters and explore vocal delivery of lines. This workshop will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 29-July 15, with a final performance for friends and family at the end of the session. These workshops are for ages 10 to 16. The registration fee is $75.
